Life shapes our perceptions in ways we don't always choose. Through thoughtful, evidence-informed therapy, we explore those patterns together — building awareness so you can move forward with clarity and intention.
Sometimes the smallest adjustment changes everything. The right shift in perspective can unlock a life that finally feels like yours.
I was struggling after college and thought I would have to live the rest of my life with severe anxiety. I didn’t believe support existed for what I was going through. Then I found the change I didn’t think was possible — and it opened my world back up. I’ve been committed to offering that same possibility to others ever since.
I’m Monica Nevarez, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. After graduating from college, I found myself really struggling — living with a level of anxiety I assumed I would simply have to accept for the rest of my life. I didn’t believe support existed for what I was going through. But I found the change I didn’t think was possible, and it opened my world back up. The tools I learned in therapy and the new perspectives I gained helped me change the way I view the world and how I interact with it. I’ve been committed to offering that same possibility to others ever since.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminology from Northern Arizona University, an education that deepened my understanding of the systems and structures that shape people’s lives — a perspective I carry into every clinical relationship. I went on to complete my Master of Social Work at the University of Southern California, specializing in Children, Youth, and Families. I have been working in the mental health field since 2017 — starting in community mental health, where I worked across a broad spectrum of presenting concerns and life circumstances, gaining a deep sense of humility that continues to shape the way I meet every client exactly where they are.
In 2021, I found my calling. I became immersed in the world of eating disorder treatment — and I was captivated. Food is something we are meant to engage with every single day, yet our relationships with it can become so vastly complicated and painful. I am moved by the reality that very few people go entirely unaffected by some form of disordered eating or food anxiety — it exists on a wide spectrum, and the impact it has on a person’s life can range from quietly limiting to all-consuming. That complexity is what draws me to this work. I went on to gain experience across the full continuum of care — outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential treatment — and I brought that breadth into my private practice.
In my private practice, I work exclusively with individual adults via telehealth throughout California — with people who are ready to explore what’s getting in the way of the life they want.
From community mental health to the most intensive eating disorder treatment settings, my clinical experience spans the full continuum of care.
Where my career began — serving individuals across a wide range of needs and life circumstances
Specialized eating disorder care focused on supporting the maintenance of recovery
Intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization — structured, higher-level support
24-hour structured care for the highest levels of clinical acuity
Where I am now — individualized telehealth for motivated adults throughout California
My approach is integrative — meaning I draw from multiple evidence-based frameworks to meet you where you are. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I tailor the tools to your unique history, goals, and pace.
Identifying and shifting thought patterns that contribute to distress
Building skills in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness
Learning to hold difficult thoughts and feelings while moving toward a values-driven life
Exploring the different parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion
Developing a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself
Strengthening your own motivation and commitment to change at your own pace
We often don’t pause to think about how complicated our relationship with food can be — until we feel a wave of anxiety when invited to a restaurant, find ourselves spending hours planning what to eat, or catch ourselves doing mental gymnastics to justify eating something we want, or to talk ourselves out of it altogether. Maybe it shows up as guilt after a meal, an urge to compensate through excessive exercise, or quietly restricting yourself to foods that feel “safe.” These experiences exist on a spectrum — and even if you don’t consider yourself to have an eating disorder, anxiety around food, rigid rules about eating, or patterns of self-punishment around what you’ve eaten are signs that support may help. I offer specialized care across the full spectrum, from disordered eating patterns to diagnosed eating disorders, rooted in clinical expertise and genuine understanding.
Persistent worry, social anxiety, and the quiet voice that tells you things aren’t quite right. We’ll work to understand where that voice came from — and learn when to listen and when to let it go.
Feeling flat, disconnected, or like you’re moving through fog. Sometimes struggles don’t look dramatic from the outside — but they still deserve real attention and skilled support.
Past experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world. In a safe, non-judgmental space, we explore how those experiences live in the present — and how to move forward without being held there.
You don’t have to be in crisis to deserve support. If something feels off — even if it’s hard to name — that’s enough of a reason to begin. Highly motivated individuals often benefit most from therapy.
Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and deeply individualized. I believe that awareness is the foundation of any meaningful change — and that you are always the expert on your own experience.
We begin with a complimentary 15-minute call to explore what’s bringing you in, answer any questions you have, and see whether we’re a good fit for working together. No commitment required.
Your first sessions are dedicated to understanding your history, your goals, and the patterns that may be getting in your way.
We meet regularly — building insight, practicing new tools, and tracking your growth at your own pace.
Your safety is my highest priority throughout our work together. If at any point a higher level of care would better serve you, I will make that recommendation clearly and compassionately — and provide you with referrals to help guide your next step.
The complimentary 15-minute consultation is an informal conversation to see if we’re a good fit — no clinical work happens. Your first session is a paid intake where we begin exploring your history, goals, and what brings you in.
This is a private-pay practice and I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill upon request, which you may submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If something feels off — even if it’s hard to name — that’s enough. The complimentary consultation call is a great way to explore whether this feels like the right time and the right fit.
Your safety always comes first. If at any point it becomes clear that you need more support than outpatient therapy can provide, I will discuss that with you openly and provide referrals to appropriate treatment options.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which tends to build the consistency and momentum that supports real change. We’ll discuss a schedule that works for your goals and your life.
All sessions are conducted via telehealth, which means you can access care from anywhere in California. You’ll need a private, comfortable space and a reliable internet connection.
I work exclusively with individual adults (18+) in California who are not currently in acute crisis. I do not provide couples, family, or group therapy at this time.
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and what you’re working through. Some clients find meaningful progress in a few months; others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll revisit this together along the way.
Reaching out is the first step, and it takes courage. I’ll respond within two business days to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation call — no commitment required.
Please note: This practice works with adult individuals who are not in acute crisis. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), or go to your nearest emergency room. If at any point during our work together a higher level of care is clinically indicated, this recommendation will be made clearly and referrals provided. Monica Nevarez, LCSW #123944 is licensed to practice in the state of California.
